Bee pollen for erectile dysfunction: the natural sexual booster

Bee pollen is a powerful compound that can potentially skyrocket your sexual desire, give you more energy and sexual stamina and improve your erectile function.

Bee pollen is one of the most revered foods in nature. It was called ambrosia, or the life-giving dust and was used, amongst other things, as a tonic to boost energy levels and enhance libido.

In ancient times and societies, mainly in Greece, China, and Egypt, bee products were widely used in medicine. The ancient Egyptians portray pollen as “a life-giving dust”.

Bee pollen is a mixture of flower pollen with honeybee secretions and nectar. So it’s much more than just pollen.

Bee pollen contains a ton of beneficial compounds, such as

  • Fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin E, pro-vitamin A, and vitamin D
  • Water-soluble vitamins such as vitamins B1, B2, B6, and C
  • Acids like biotin, rutin, pantothenic, nicotinic, inositol, and folic.
  • Macro-elements like sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium
  • Micro-elements as zinc, copper, manganese, iron, and selenium
  • Nucleic acids, particularly ribonucleic acid
  • Essential amino acids
  • Polyphenols
  • etc.

Although bee pollen is a good source of vitamins and minerals, it doesn’t help much, since the amount of bee pollen consumed is very small. Bee pollen has been shown to be anabolic for older animals by increasing their muscle mass, but then their diet usually consists of 15% or more of bee pollen.

But besides the vitamins and minerals, the many other beneficial compounds will definitely make a good impact.

Bee pollen and erectile dysfunction

There are a few ways that bee pollen can improve sexual dysfunction. Here are a few.

Bee pollen reduces oxidative stress and inflammation

One of bee pollen’s superpowers is that it can powerfully lower oxidative stress and inflammation.

Free radicals cause oxidative stress (damage) to proteins, lipids, DNA, etc., and damage tissue in the body.

Bee pollen lowers inflammation by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX), the enzymes responsible for turning arachidonic acid into inflammatory compounds such as prostaglandin and leukotrienes, inducing acute and chronic inflammatory conditions in tissues.

Once specific tissue has become damaged by free radicals and inflammatory lipid byproducts, proper function declines.

Most of bee pollen’s benefits come from neutralizing free radicals and oxidative stress and lowering inflammation.

Oxidative stress is a massive contributor to vascular and smooth muscle damage, which contributes to erectile dysfunction. Bee pollen improves erections by preventing damage done.

Bee pollen improves cardiovascular health

Roughly 80% of all erectile dysfunction cases are of vascular origin. The penis is highly vascularized. As blood vessels relax and expand, blood flows into the penis which then promotes an erection.

When the vasculature becomes damaged, it can’t relax as it should and blood can’t flow in as it should. This leads to ED.

There are many causes of vascular dysfunction, and a few include diabetes, oxidative stress, nutrition deficiencies, polyunsaturated fat, etc.

Diabetes is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and weak erections.

The prevalence of ED is approximately 3.5‐fold higher in men with diabetes than in those without (R).

Bee pollen has potent anti-atherosclerotic effects and has been shown to lower elevated cholesterol, oxidized LDL and triglycerides and reduce vascular damage (thus reducing plaque accumulation) (R).

Bee pollen can help prevent ED induced by diabetes or a state of elevated reactive oxygen species.

Bee pollen protects the testes

Although the testes have a barrier (blood testicle barrier), it can become compromised and toxins can accumulate in the testicles.

In the testes, these toxins (heavy metals, pesticides, polyunsaturated fat, endotoxin, etc.) damage the Leydig and Sertoli cells, thus lowering testosterone and sperm production.

Bee pollen protects the testes against these toxins and prevents damage to the Leydig and Sertoli cells. Although this hasn’t been studied in humans yes, bee pollen should thus be able to increase testosterone in men with obesity and diabetes.

A rabbit study has found that supplemental bee pollen can dramatically increase testosterone and thyroid hormone T4 (R).

T4 is converted to T3, which then stimulates the conversion of testosterone to DHT. And DHT is crucial for proper sexual function. Check out this article: The easiest way to optimize DHT (thyroid optimization)

Bee pollen reduces stress levels

Stress is a big libido and erection killer.

Bee pollen has potent adaptogenic properties. Bee pollen can:

  • Increase the body’s resistance to harmful physical, chemical, and biological factors
  • Increase physical fitness during excessive physical burden
  • Improve brain functions, such as memory, learning, comprehending, thinking, and ability to concentrate under stress
  • Increase the immune system’s strength against infection (R)
  • Reduce stress in unfavorable circumstances (R)
  • Lower neuroinflammation and increase BDNF (R).

A lot of people report feeling re-energized after adding bee pollen to their lives while going through stressful periods.

Bee pollen improves liver function

Liver damage plays a major role in the development of ED in patients with non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD) (R).

Bee pollen can protect the liver against various toxins (heavy metal contamination, industrial gases and dusts, and drugs (e.g., antirheumatic and anti-inflammatory preparations and antibiotics)) and also enhance the detoxifying activity of the liver (R).

Bee pollen improves prostate health

Prostatitis as an independent risk factor for erectile dysfunction (R).

Prostatitis can be caused by bacterial and non-bacterial origin.

Bee pollen extracts have special properties that help fight undesirable prostate problems.

In this study, 90 patients with chronic prostatitis syndrome took pollen extract tablets three times a day for six months.

The patients were divided into two groups, 72 without any complications and 18 with complications such as urethral strictures, prostatic calculi, or bladder neck sclerosis.

Overall, 26 (36%) of the participants without complicating factors were cured of their symptoms and signs, 56 (78%) had an overall favorable clinical response, and 30 (42%) improved significantly.

In another study, 60 patients who had chronic non-bacterial prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome received either bee pollen or a placebo for 6 months in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

The patients who received bee pollen tablets healed or improved, in contrast to those who received the placebo, with no adverse effects.

This guy on Reddit had an amazing experience with bee pollen.

“For starters, I’ll tell you my cure. 1/4th a teaspoon of bee pollen granules.

So, I’ve had this problem since I was 15, I’m 29 now. I’ve never had more than 24 hours of being symptom free. I’ve gone to countless doctors, taken countless pills, nothing worked.

Then during a desperate night about 2 months ago I searched instagram for #prostatitis and looked to see if any doctor could help me. I messaged one and he told me “Bee pollen”. It sounded a bit ridiculous, but I kept it in mind. Then at Costco I coincidentally found the item in the image.

I googled the safety and they suggested a quarter of a teaspoon in case I’m allergic. So,just in case, that’s what I did.

By that night, my prostatitis was gone. By the next day, it was the longest I have ever been symptom free. More than a month after starting (and I skip days), I’ve not had a single symptom. It’s over.

Now, there’s still some psychological damage. If I want to ejaculate after 11pm, I will think “Oh no, I’m going to spend the next 2 hours by the toilet, getting out a drop of urine at a time, while my bladder burns and aches”.. But of course, that’s not the case anymore.

After I poop, I think “I’ll have to come back to the bathroom to pee again after 10 minutes”. Not the case anymore.

I don’t have to prepare for going anywhere by peeing 12 times first. I don’t have to do any of the crap that ruled my life for 14 years. It actually feels like something is missing. And my sperm to semen ratio is normalized. In fact I think I have more sperm now. But I used to have less sperm and 10x the normal amount of semen and sometimes it would appear mixed with urine. Also, I used to sort of “leak” after I was done peeing — more than the average guy.

No more.

Now I’m not fully in belief it won’t ever come back… But for this month or so of relief, it’s absolutely worth sharing. It may not work for everyone, but it has been life changing for me.”

Bee pollen boosts libido

Low libido can contribute to ED, since attraction and at least the desire to have sex can play a big role in getting him up.

Stress, neurotoxins and oxidative stress can tank the neurotransmitters involved in libido, namely dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, noradrenaline, etc. (R).

Bee pollen has potent anti-oxidant effects, which protect the brain against oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.

Stress-resiliency, no inflammation and optimal neurotransmitters will help keep your libido high during difficult times.

This guy on Reddit had a significant improvement in his libido from bee pollen.

After a particularly grueling week at work and at the gym, my wife asks me in all seriousness after a rambunctious session of conjunction. You’re not on amphatamines are you? Looking me in the eye with her worried look. I burst out laughing. Huuun, no. I’m just bursting with energy. I lost weight, gained muscle and I now workout like a beast. I have energy to burn. The only thing that I take is a preworkout shake and a tbs of bee pollen (OMG who needs amphatamines when I got bee freaking pollen). I have found this mix before a workout gives me insane energy. Specially since I’m still on CICO which often times might leave me tapped due to lack of calories to burn. I’m all about burning the access calories off but I also need some energy to fuel my workouts.

So I laid my wife’s mind to rest and pounced on her like a jungle cat for round 3. Lol” (R)

This guy also recommends it since he had great results with it.

Try bee pollen. A tablespoon a day. Worked way too well for me. I was taking it hoping for increased testosterone to workout but all i got was super horny.” (R)

Bee pollen energy

Bee pollen improves mood and energy

Feeling low on energy and perhaps a little down and depressed is going to negatively affect your erections.

Bee pollen has been shown to improve the effectiveness of anti-depressants. If you take them together, it enables you to use lower doses and improves the overall condition in a short period of time.

Bee pollen improves brain blood flow. This increased blood supply to nervous tissue boosts mental capacity and strengthens the nervous system weakened by stress or overworking (R). Therefore, pollen is effective in treating physical and mental overtiredness, lack of energy, and apathy.

Particularly in older people with depression due to decreased life energy, bee pollen causes gradual mood improvement, restores the desire to live, and strengthens them physically (R).

Some sources say that bee pollen contains phenylethylamine, however, I can’t find any sources to confirm if that’s true or not.

Phenylethylamine has similar to amphetamines and increases dopamine and noradrenaline. Both these two neurotransmitters have strong anti-depressant effects and help to enhance cognitive abilities.

Bee pollen nitric oxide erections

Bee pollen increases nitric oxide

Optimal nitric oxide levels are key to diamond-hard erections. Nitric oxide production for erections is created by the enzymes endothelial and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (eNOS and nNOS).

Where there is too much oxidative stress in the body, eNOS becomes uncoupled and creates free radicals instead of NO.

Since bee pollen contains potent anti-oxidants, it will prevent eNOS from uncoupling, thus optimizing NO levels for rock-hard erections.

Bee pollen lowers high blood pressure

Men with hypertension are almost twice as likely to have impaired penile blood flow and erectile dysfunction compared to men with normal blood pressure (R).

You might have guessed it. Oxidative stress plays a big role here as well. Oxidative stress increases the enzyme’s angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which creates angiotensin II, a vasoconstricting peptide hormone.

Elevated ACE and angiotensin II inhibit proper blood flow into the penis, thus contributing to ED.

Bee pollen has been shown to reduce oxidative stress as well as ACE and angiotensin 2 and reduce high blood pressure (R).

Other benefits of bee pollen

Additional benefits of bee pollen include:

  • Strengthening the immune system (R)
  • Protecting against mold (mycotoxin) (R)
  • Improving brain function (increase BDNF and neurogenesis)
  • Bee-ing antibacterial
  • Anticancer
  • Antiallergenic
  • Anti-fungal
  • Chemopreventive (R).
  • Improving skin health (protecting cells from abnormal melanogenesis in skin disorders, and eliminating age spots, freckles, melasma, and malignant melanoma)
  • Improving fertility (increasing sperm count, motility, etc.)

Dosing

It’s generally recommended to start with 1/2 tsp and work up to 1 tsp. Most people do great on just 1 tsp. However, much higher doses can be taken, such as multiple tablespoons.

Using small doses of bee pollen with other medications is advised for chronic ailments

Bee pollen can be used on a daily basis. As it doesn’t contain any known androgens, it won’t cause suppression. Some people suggest cycling bee pollen to prevent your body from getting used to it.

Summary

Bee pollen can be a great tool to boost your sexual health, libido, energy and erections. It pairs very well with other bee products, such as royal jelly.

It’s unlikely that bee pollen will be as potent as male enhancement pills, but it’s definitely safer with far fewer side effects.
