Joymode testosterone support complex review

Testosterone support or false marketing and money waste?

In this article, I’m going to break down each ingredient and then summarize whether this is a good product or not.

Let’s dive in.

Hans here! I increased my testosterone to 1254ng/dl and have been maintaining high T naturally. I’ve turned myself into an Alpha Energy Male.

An Alpha Energy Male with high energy, fast recovery, high sex drive, and confidence.

This is why I research obsessively, experiment and write, and have been doing so for the past decade.

Hope you enjoy and join me on this journey.

Why do we want to be an alpha energy male?

Being an alpha energy male is synonymous with possessing both high testosterone levels and abundant energy. Consequently, the question arises: what exactly is the significance of having elevated testosterone and energy levels?

Because high T and energy make us feel incredible and powerups our motivation, drive, confidence, and sexual function.

A life without high T and energy isn’t a life worth living.

Zinc

Zinc is one of the most important minerals used for testosterone optimization. This is because it can have a powerful effect on boosting testosterone. However, it will only increase testosterone if you’re deficient in zinc.

Low zinc in the body leads to:

  • Low testosterone
  • High estrogen
  • Very low testosterone-to-estrogen ratio
  • Low DHT
  • High 3alpha-diol (weak DHT metabolite) and
  • An awful DHT to 3 alpha-diol ratio.

A low meat (low zinc) diet can tank your testosterone.

An interesting study was done where they put 22 men on a zinc-deficient diet for 24 weeks to see what would happen to their testosterone (R).

Their diet before the experimental diet was roughly 12.5mg, which is just above the recommended daily allowance (RDA). The zinc content of the experimental zinc-deficient diet was 4.2-5.6mg. 2-3 times less of what they usually consumed.

The low-zinc foods were from a semipurified diet based on texturized soy products with added vitamins and minerals, except zinc. I can’t believe anyone ate that for 20 weeks!

As a result, their testosterone dropped from 1150ng/dl to 305nd/dl after 20 weeks! That’s roughly an x4 drop.

As a side note, it’s quite remarkable that their baseline testosterone was 1150ng/dl since they worked in a hospital, which is demanding, can be stressful and has a severe lack of sunlight.

Supplementing zinc can double your testosterone

The same researchers did another study where that supplemented men between the ages of 50 and 80 with 30mg zinc gluconate daily for 6 months (R).

Before the supplemental protocol, their average daily dietary zinc intake was a measly 69% of the RDA. Since the RDA for zinc is 11mg, that would mean they were consuming only 7.6mg of zinc daily.

Over the 6 months, their testosterone doubled from 240ng/dl to 460ng/dl, putting them in the normal range (R).

Another study found that supplementing 240mg zinc daily for 40-50 days increased testosterone by nearly 200ng/dl. And as you can see, DHT also nearly doubled.

Zinc increases testosterone mainly by:

  • Being a cofactor for the enzyme, 17 β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17β-HSD), which converts androstenedione to testosterone (R).
  • Inhibiting aromatase
  • Lowering excess cortisol
  • Lowering prolactin
  • Increasing dopamine
  • Improving thyroid function
  • Lowering inflammation
  • Improving insulin sensitivity
  • Increases undercarboxylated osteocalcin, which is the hormonally active form, stimulate testosterone synthesis (A).
  • etc.

Magnesium - Free education icons

Magnesium

Supplemental magnesium can increase testosterone, which is shown by multiple research papers (RR).

Magnesium supplementation is able to increase testosterone in sedentary, beginner and advanced athletes and it potentiates the testosterone boost induced by exercise (R). The dose used in this study was 10mg/kg of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt), which has roughly 1mg of elemental magnesium (10%) per 10mg.

ZMA (30mg zinc, 450mg magnesium and 10mg B6) was able to dramatically increase testosterone (184ng/dl) in football players over an 8-week period. Very good boost if you ask me since the placebo group experienced a decline (R). It’s unlikely that zinc alone was responsible for this since zinc hasn’t been shown to cause such big boosts.

Here are 6 ways how magnesium can increase testosterone:

  • Lowering gut inflammation and preventing leaky gut
    • A diet low in magnesium leads to a decrease in bifidobacteria in the gut as well as an increase in gut permeability (R). This allows toxins to enter the body, causing inflammation and lower testosterone.
  • Increase ATP production, which promotes the production of testosterone in a dose-dependent manner (RR).
    • Magnesium increases ATP production by directly stimulating ATP synthase (the enzyme that creates ATP) (R).
    • Binding to ATP to stabilize it.
  • Improve insulin sensitivity
    • At least 25% of men with type 2 diabetes have low testosterone (R).
  • Lower excess cortisol
  • Improve thyroid hormone production
  • Activating vitamin D
    • Vitamin D can upregulate various steroidogenic enzymes
  • Activation of vitamin B1.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has been extensively studied and has been shown in multiple studies to increase testosterone.

I’m going to discuss 3 of them.

1) 600mg of Ashwagandha (providing 21 mg of withanolide glycosides a day) in overweight men aged 40–70 years, with mild fatigue, increase salivary DHEA-S by 18% and testosterone by 14.7% (R). 14.7% might seem like a good deal, but if you look at the actual numbers, it’s only from 332 to 378pmol/L.

2) 300mg twice daily of KSM-66 extract increased testosterone from 402 to 475ng/dl in healthy males aged between 21 and 45 years (R).

3) 300mg twice daily of KSM-66 extract increased testosterone from 630 to 727ng/dl after 8 weeks in resistance training beginners (R). That’s a 96ng/dl increase.

In summary, you can expect a testosterone increase between 70-100ng/dl on average from taking 600mg KSM-66 extract daily. Not the greatest, but it’s something.

Ashwagandha has anti-anxiety and anti-stress benefits that can improve sexual function since stress causes sexual dysfunction. Ashwagandha was found effective in stress-induced sexual dysfunctions in rats (R).

In humans, ashwagandha can significantly increase the subjective perception of sexual well‐being (R).

Diindolylmethane (DIM)

DIM is mainly used as an aromatase inhibitor to lower excess estrogen. DIM is created from indole-3-carbinol (I3C) during cooking. I3C is a phytochemical found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale, collard greens, wasabi, etc.

It works mainly to help with estrogen detoxification via the liver by increasing P450 activity in the liver.

Excess estrogen contributes to mood swings, fat storage around the thighs, glutes and pecs, erectile dysfunction, etc.

The only human study on DIM is in women with breast cancer. And now DIM is found in A LOT of men’s products with the wishful thinking that it will reduce excess estrogen.

The above study mentioned in the tweet also found higher 2-hydroxyestrones (detox metabolite of estradiol), which itself has anti-estrogenic effects (R, R).

DIM is not good at lowering estradiol, even though it enhances estrogen breakdown. It would be better to use a different more powerful natural aromatase inhibitor instead.

Other side effects /downsides of DIM

  • It inhibits the androgen receptor (RR).
  • Directly activates the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) (R).
  • Increases SHBG, thus lowering free testosterone (R).

I’m not a fan of this ingredient. Although their only use 100mg (most products use 300-400mg) and therefore will not have a downside, it will likely not have an upside either.

Boron

Boron is most frequently used to boost free T and rightfully so. 10mg boron for 7 days nearly doubled free T in this study (R). However, the “healthy” men used in this study had very low T to begin with (260ng/dl).

Most people use boron to increase free testosterone, but it can actually increase total testosterone a little bit too. This study found that 10mg boron (as sodium tetraborate) increased testosterone by an average of 60ng/dl (R).

Not everyone got a boost in T, but 62.5% of the participants did get a boost.

Not too bad if you ask me.

Summary

Although this product isn’t the bad, it’s not the best. You will definitely notice adaptogenic and androgenic effects, but will it be significant?

I’d say…there are better products out there.

And I don’t like the fact that they are doing deceitful marketing like this.

Most other brands contain zinc, magnesium, Ashwagandha and boron. Nothing in this product is unique or special.

You can simply just buy Ashwagandha on its own for much cheaper and it will more or less have the same effect as this supp.
